Concept of the Show

The Addams Family is a musical comedy with music and lyrics by Andrew Lippa and a book by Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice. The show is based upon The Addams Family characters created by Charles Addams in his single-panel gag cartoons, which depict a ghoulish American family with an affinity for all things macabre. Numerous film and television adaptations of Addams' cartoons exist, but the musical, which is the first stage show based on the characters, is based upon the cartoons rather than the television and film characters.

In addition to the original characters created by Addams, the musical introduces the new roles of Mal, Alice, and Lucas Beineke, who are described as "straight arrow Midwesterners." The ensemble consists of a group of Addams Family ancestors, each from a different time period.

Lippa said he wrote most of the score to match each character's personality. This included giving Gomez a Flamenco-style Spanish score, Wednesday a more contemporary score, and Fester a vaudevillian score. "Let's Not Talk About Anything Else but Love" is "jazzy/swingy/catchy" and "Happy/Sad" is a ballad reminiscent of Stephen Sondheim.

Season

The season will run from Saturday the 30th of April until Saturday the 14th of May. Specific dates to follow.

 About auditions

Auditions will be taking place at Riverlea Theatre Friday evening, Saturday and Sunday day, the 20th, 21st and 22nd of November. Those auditioning for a singing role in the company or backing vocalists will need to to sing one of the two songs from the show provided in the links below as well as prepare a song of the pop, R&B, rock, folk or musical theatre genres.

If going for a particular role, we will send you a small section of song to learn and some doialogue. It may be that you run out of time to do your other song.

We will have a piano accompanist as well as facilities to play backing tracks on CD, USB or mobile devices.

You may not be asked to sing both or have time to sing the whole song. This is not an indication on how well your audition went.

If you are going for a named character, let us know and we will send you an excerpt from the script to read at your audition.

All auditionees going for a principal/featured role or company/ancestor must attend the en masse dance audition which will take place from 11am to 1pm.

Please see below links to the libretto of audition songs as well as links to the broadway version of the song.

Please arrive at the auditions 10 minutes prior to your scheduled time.
