Uncle Fester

Fester Addams is Gomez’s brother and, thus, Wednesday and Pugsley’s uncle. He lives with his brother’s family, his mother, and the family’s servant, Lurch, at the ancestral Addams family home in Central Park.

Fester, like the rest of the family, has a number of oddities and quirks. For example, he declares during “Full Disclosure” that he’s in love with the moon, and later sings a love song dedicated to lunar beloved.

He is also a very sweet and romantic man. It is he who most supports Wednesday and Lucas’ union, insisting that love is the most important thing in the world.

Throughout the play, Fester functions as a narrator of sorts, stepping out of the action at points to address the audience. He asks the audience questions, sings songs, and generally helps move the play forward.

During one of his solo’s (“Fester’s Manifesto”), Fester plays his own accompaniment on the banjolele. In production, it is up to the director if the accompaniment will be played by the orchestra or Fester himself.
