Lurch
Lurch is the faithful Addams family butler. He is a huge, hulking man — effect is often heightened with costuming.
Lurch moves extremely slowly, much to the other characters’ frustrations at points. He does not speak through most of the play, instead communicating in low groans. However, he finally sings in the final song, “Move Towards the Darkness,” surprising everyone present.
The actor playing Lurch should be extremely tall, have a low voice, and a commanding presence so that he may hold his own on stage while the character is silent for most of show.
